About the Department

The Department of Political Science was established on 29th November, 1981 with the first batch of students in H.S. level. The college introduced Political Science as a subject in degree level from the session 1984-85. The major course was introduced during the academic session 1987 with 4 numbers of students enrolled as the first batch and 100% of them successfully passed in 1989. Late Padmakanta Bhattacharaya was the founder teacher and then Head of the Department along with Dr. Anuva Boruah and late Surabhi Saikia (both founder teacher of the Department). At present Dr. G.C. Borah, Dr B. Saikia, and Dr. N.K. Sahu have been working as the faculty since 1987, 1988 and 1989 respectively. Beside Srmti Puja Das, and Srimti Bonnya Phukan have been working as a contractual faculty in the Department. The present Head of Department has been entrusted to Dr. N.K. Sahu. The Department offers honours and non-honours (CBCS) courses in Degree level in regular mode and P.G. Course in distance mode. The teaching learning environment utmost priority to ensure the quality and achievement of the students. Home Assignments, Students Seminars, Group Discussions, quize, extempore are set in line with academic syllabus.

Moreover, remedial classes, peer learning, students mentoring and other students centric participatory learning are usual practices in the Department. The Department has been able to uphold good academic result.

Political Science Association: The Department is pioneer of formation of Political Science Association in 1996 for the first time in the history of the college. Since its inception, the Association has been functioning actively and successfully organised lots of students friendly activities and programmes like students centric magazine ‘Bislason’ since 2005, numbers of academic field study trips under its banner, seminar, popular talk, quize, debating, educational excursion for the benefit of the students.

 

Political Science Department Alumni Association: The Association was constituted on 22nd July, 2018 to share and exchange the views of Alumni in different aspects for the greater interest of the Department in particular and society in general. The Alumni Association was comprised with following portfolios:-
